The Future of Feminism

by Flavia Ruzi

I took this photograph at the Women’s March, Los Angeles, CA on January 21st, 2017. The event attracted 750,000 people — the largest event of its kind nationwide. After Donald Trump’s dubious victory — following a racist, bigoted, misogynist campaign — this gathering of citizen activists confirmed California’s rejection of Trump’s road to triumph and published our commitment to fighting back. The two young girls pictured in the photograph had climbed the street light in an effort to better see the speakers on the temporary stage set up on 5th and Broadway. To me their resourcefulness exemplified the spirit of the Women’s March as well as the future of feminist activism in the increasingly diverse community of the US, despite the temporary reign of isolationist hatred.
