I photographed this boy when I was in the slums of Kolkata, India with a school for street children that I was volunteering for. We were surveying slum kids to see if they needed a place at the school. This boy had a father who was a tailor, and three brothers who worked for him- a steady source of income that lessened his chance of a place at the school. Whilst, sadly, the school could only take the worst possible cases (those with no parents, future or hope), we alerted them to the fact that this boy needed medical attention, and would benefit any amount of attention they could give, increasing his chances of a future.
